Thank you to everyone who has downloaded my books. One recent commenter pointed out that the links in the post point to the Amazon UK website and it was unclear how someone based outside the UK would download the books. I have therefore updated the post to make it easier for readers outside the UK to download them.
The Science Geek 🙂
—
I have written a short e-book on the likelihood of there being extraterrestrial intelligent life and how humans have tried to find that life and make contact with it. It is based on a number of posts from my blog. For readers based in the UK the book is available to download from Amazon in Kindle format by clicking here. For readers outside the UK, see the notes at the end of the post.
The book will be free to download until the end of Thursday 13 August GMT, after which time it will be £1.99.
I have also made my earlier e-book on the Moon available on the same deal. For readers based in the UK, this can be downloaded by clicking here.
How to download the books if you’re based outside the UK.
There are two ways of doing this.
Firstly, if you go into the Amazon Kindle store and search for “The Science Geek” as the author you should find my books.
Secondly, I have added some links below to allow you to download the book by just clicking on the link for your country.

I enjoyed reading your little book ‘Is There Anyone Out There?’ I did quite a lot of research on Frank Drake recently with a view to (maybe) writing a new novel. I guess I’m no wiser than anyone else when it comes to deciding who or what might be out there. Personally, I can’t accept that in this incredible universe we are alone as an (arguably) intelligent entity but when, or whether, we are likely to encounter it is quite another matter. Drake’s equation doesn’t help. Actually, I’m rather impressed by the probability Stephen Hawking gave us for Kip Thorne going back in time:
one over ten to the power ten to the power sixty – See ‘The Universe in a Nutshell’. To be realistic I fear the odds of encountering our ‘neighbours’ are of the same order. Maybe just a little bit better!

Thanks for your comment. As I say in my book, opinions differ among the “experts” about how prevalent extraterrestrial life is
I believe that the were are alone in the galaxy, and all neighbouring galaxies but we are probably not alone the entire Universe, since the Universe is so vast.

You might find this interesting. Sorry its just a newspaper report. I havent had time to look up the reference. But I’m sure you must have heard about it

We use a similar principle of Light absorption and re-emission at a different wavelength to identify cancer and precancer. (See VELscope)
So in theory if plant life is out there it might be identified by light emission wavelengths.
It’s a novel idea.
